A little more info about The Porterbrook Network

April 1st was my first official day as the Associate Director of The Porterbrook Network! If you have not done so already, I encourage you to check out The Porterbrook website at: www.porterbrooknetwork.org. Deedra and I are both excited about the opportunity to serve the Lord and His Church through Porterbrook, but the question we keep getting from friends and family is “What is Porterbrook?”. I thought I would take this opportunity to share a little more about what The Porterbrook Network is and what I’ll be doing with them.

The Porterbrook Network started just over 4 years ago and was birthed out of 20 plus years of ministry in Sheffield, England and the United Kingdom by Steve Timmis and Tim Chester (authors of the book “Total Church” and founders of The Crowded House – which is a network of churches and church plants in the UK).

The vision of Porterbrook is to equip individuals and churches to rediscover the mission of God as their DNA, to become better lovers of God and lovers of others, and to proclaim the Gospel through word and action for the glory of God.

Porterbrook  is an evangelical and non-denominational training network that has created a church based theological training system. It provides two years of curriculum for equipping, connection to people all over the world who are participating in Porterbrook, and consultation for churches that desire to better identify, train, and send out leaders.

Porterbrook now has 25 learning sites (local churches that have opened up the training to members of their church and others in the community) in 6 different countries. It has over 500 individuals currently being equipped to lead within the context of their local churches.

My role as Associate Director will be to help The Porterbrook Network through establishing a solid infrastructure that will sustain growth, develop new resources, and serve the current learning sites and establish new sites around the world. It is a humbling opportunity to serve the global Church in this way.

One of the things that excites Deedra and I about this role with Porterbrook is that Steve Timmis (the Executive Director) desires and is encouraging us to continue to pursue church planting. He sees my role with Porterbrook as both an opportunity to prepare for church planting as well as a means to help us church plant in the near future.

Thank you for your support of us. I can not express how encouraging it is to look on our blog and see the number of people who have viewed our updates. It is always a blessing to know that we are not alone.

As we move forward in this journey, we continue to ask for your prayers. Specifically we ask you to pray for the following:

1) Finances: For my first year with Porterbrook I will be raising my own salary and ministry expenses. During this time we will establish Porterbrook as a non-profit in the States and put together a sustainable ministry model that will allow my role to be funded through the ministry in the future.

Please pray for both provision and faith during this time. We know that the Lord will provide, but there are times of anxiety and forgetfulness of all that He has done and will do. Please pray for favor with friends, family, and even unknown relationships during this season of fundraising.

2) Wisdom: Over the next month I will be working on trying to put together long-term plans for The Porterbrook Network that include everything from how to leverage technology, to additional curriculum, to the business aspects of the ministry. I will not be doing this alone, but in conversation with The Porterbrook staff and team members in England on our board of Directors.

Please join us in praying for wisdom as we seek the Lord’s direction for this ministry. Please pray for wisdom beyond my years and experience, and please pray for favor as we move forward in equipping the local church to make disciples.

Thank you again for your support of us through prayer. God bless!
