Deedra arrived Friday afternoon to London’s Heathrow airport; it was a glorious day, praise the Lord! It was so good to see my wife! We are grateful for the opportunity and resources that the Lord has provided for her trip to join me in Sheffield.
By the way, “Sheffield” is not London! Sheffield is a city of about 550,000 2 1/2 hours north of London in the heart of England. Based on the various texts, direct messages on twitter, and posts on our blog, I have not done a good job of explaining this!
When Deedra arrived in London, we took a train to Sheffield and because this weekend was a holiday weekend for the Brits (Friday for the “Royal Wedding” and Monday for “May Day”), we were able to enjoy a leisurely weekend of hanging out with The Crowded House members and Porterbrook staff, take a trip to Chester near Northern Wales, and really just catch up with one another.
Today (Tuesday) and tomorrow we are working on different aspects of Porterbrook, but primarily the website and promotion for me and editing content for Deedra. Thursday morning we are driving to Birmingham to the Acts 29 church planting Boot Camp.
I will be speaking on Porterbrook and helping oversee the logistics of the event, as well as taking the opportunity to meet with our Learning Site coordinators from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Italy, and the Ukraine. I will also be assessing 2 potential church planters (7 total will be assessed at the boot camp), so your prayers for wisdom and discernment would be greatly appreciated.
We have several Acts 29 friends from the States coming over for the Boot Camp. We are excited for the opportunity to spend some time with them in Birmingham and Sheffield (as they’ll be spending the weekend with us here).
Monday is a day of planning for the Porterbrook Institute (a more intense, pastoral equipping arm of the Porterbrook Network). Please pray for wisdom and discern as we work through the future of the institute and opportunities for it’s expansion.
It is hard to believe that a week from today we will be leaving on a flight back to the Dallas! The time has gone by so fast. We have accomplished a lot, made some really good friends, and had the opportunity to serve and worship with our brothers and sisters in Christ here in England. While I will be glad to come home, I will definitely miss everyone and being a part of what God is doing here.
Well, we will be home in a week and will post some concluding updates and pictures from the trip when we return. Thank you for your prayers thus far and for those to come. The Lord is good and gracious in honoring them! God bless!
